RVSM approval allows aircraft to fly with a vertical separation of 1000 feet reduced from 2000 feet between FL290 and FL410 inclusive. The Air Navigation Order & Regulations states that a UK registered aircraft "shall not fly in reduced vertical separation minimum airspace unless it is equipped with height keeping systems which enable the aircraft to maintain the prescribed height keeping performance capability".
RVSM Overview. In 1997 the FAA issued a Final Rule establishing requirements for operations of U.S.-registered aircraft in airspace designated as Reduced Vertical Separation Minimum (RVSM) airspace. RVSM refers to airspace between flight level (FL) 290 and FL 410, with assigned altitudes separated by a minimum of 1,000 feet rather than the 2,000-foot minimum separation currently required above FL290.
Operators using the services of part 145 certificated repair stations (CRS) must include provisions to ensure that the repair station meets the requirements of their RVSM programs. (b) Existing RVSM compliance by inspection/modification. This approach is suitable for aircraft that are brought up to RVSM-compliant condition in accordance with SB, SL, or STC, which have had the RVSM eligibility approved by an authority acceptable to the Director. These documents contain requirements that are specific to individual aircraft Deviation from RVSM Requirements. In accordance with § 91.180, the Administrator may authorize an operator to deviate from RVSM requirements for a specific individual flight in RVSM airspace if: a.

Reduced vertical separation minima or minimum (RVSM) is the reduction, from 2,000 feet to 1,000 feet, of the standard vertical separation required between aircraft flying between flight level 290 (29,000 ft) and flight level 410 (41,000 ft). (3) Documentation that establishes compliance with the applicable RVSM aircraft requirements of this section; and (4) The conformity tests used to ensure that aircraft approved with the data package meet the RVSM aircraft requirements. What Equipment Is Needed for RVSM Airspace?
The FAA removed a lot of the RVSM Maintenance Program requirements. On January 22, 2019, RVSM authorization was revised again for all Operators that have aircraft which are ADS-B out equipped. If you are only operating within domestic airspace and not overflying other countries and / or no further than 12nm from the shoreline, you will not need a RVSM LOA or OpSpec or MSpec if the aircraft is

Only aircraft with specially certified altimeters and autopilots may fly in RVSM airspace, otherwise the aircraft must fly lower or higher than the airspace, or seek special exemption from the requirements. The aircraft should have its own RVSM manual which is published by the manufacturer and is usually contained in the Aircraft Flight Manual or its supplements.
